How can I edit my contact information?
The custom staff fields has been a point of confusion for many districts since the teacher table was removed and split into Users and SchoolStaff. As there was a lot of requests for assistance with creating good fields for staff we added some custom fields to our plugins. This includes a custom cell phone, secondary email, and voice/text toggles for the stock home_phone field.
Getting to My Contact Info
Getting to the page is the same in PowerSchool and PowerTeacher
- Click on your initials in the upper right corner
- Click on Manage Profile
- Click on My Contact Info
This will take you to the My Contact Info page. From here you will only be able to see your own data, no one else's. What is editable is controlled in an admin setting.
What are the possible options?
There are 3 basic options for what you'll see here.
Option 1: View only
You are able to view the data but not edit anything. This could be that your data is being managed in another system such as an HR system and information flows from that system out to PowerSchool. Or it could be that no contact info is being managed inside of PowerSchool and the edit function was turned off to remove confusion.
Option 2: Edit My Custom Contacts
In this option you can only edit custom fields, not the ones that come with stock PowerSchool. Home Phone, School Phone, and the stock Email Address fields are not editable but the custom fields are editable. This is the most common setting and allows for control over stock fields that may transmit to some other entity such as state reporting while giving you some control.
** NOTE: Even if option 3 is selected in the settings this is the highest level for PowerTeacher as editing the stock fields in PowerTeacher creates a hidden security violation and doesn't save changes.
Option 3: Edit All My Contacts
In this option all fields, including home phone, school phone and email address, are editable within the PowerSchool portal.
When I make changes when will that take effect?
Data is exported from PowerSchool daily after school hours and imported into BrightArrow sometime after 11pm. Changes you make will take effect the following day after the data has had a chance to refresh.
What happens to the Emergency Contacts information?
That information stays inside PowerSchool and does not transfer to BrightArrow. That is for school use only.
What is Email 2?
That is a custom field that comes with our plugins and gives a place to enter a non-school email address in case you would like to receive messages in another email
