What Ports Need to be Open for BrightArrow to Work Within PowerSchool
The integration of BrightArrow within PowerSchool relies on some communication between your PowerSchool server and the BrightArrow servers. Files with information about who to message for attendance or what phone numbers to use when calling a student's parent/guardians is transferred periodically so that it can be updated in your lists. When a staff member wants to send a message to a current selection of students or staff PowerSchool needs to tell BrightArrow who was in that current selection. Plus there's the integration of the BrightArrow interface within PowerSchool. All of these rely on data to be able to be transferred via certain ports.
Data Export Manager
Data Export Manager (DEM) is used to send BrightArrow files of information on a scheduled basis. The exports are transferred using a unique sFTP account that pertains just to your server. Data is encrypted on transfer.
Port: 22
BrightArrow interface (iFrame)
Viewing and using the BrightArrow interface within PowerSchool makes it possible to send messages or review past messages without needing to go to a separate website. Users can still go to the standalone BrightArrow messaging system to log in and send messages, but the integration makes everything streamlined and simple.

Current Selection and Report Transfers
Transferring the data a user wants to use for a current selection or a report the user wants to send to parents/guardians can be done with a push of a button. The data is transferred securely to a BrightArrow server that then processes the request while the user writes their message.
