What are the differences with the GUI message editors in BrightView
In the Original Look and the New Look interfaces there was a separate GUI interface for making messages when a user requested an HTML email. That interface allowed for adding images, changing font colors, etc. In BrightView that interface is no longer separate, instead the GUI message editor is now the stock editor, even if you don't need to do anything except type a message without any graphical changes. What you may have noticed is that in BrightView there are actually 2 versions depending on what you are doing. This is to take advantage of features that exist in 2 different versions of the product we are using, CKEditor. While the company works on adding all the features we use into the latest version we will hop back and forth between versions to give you the features you need for the task you are attempting to perform giving you the newest when possible but reverting to the previous version when required.
But what are those changes? What features trigger a move from one to the other?
When does it use the latest version?
The latest version will be used whenever possible.
- For All Text editing processes that involve typing in content, bringing in images, and applying various styles use the TEXT Editor Window.
- Has most features like table, fonts, sizes, quotes, images, media, bullet points etc
When does it use the previous version?
- Use the “HTML Edit Window” solely for bringing in HTML content from an outside source or typing in HTML directly.
- The “HTML Source View” can be toggled to see how your content looks with the HTML content brought in/typed
- Content Templates set up are also set up to work in the “HTML Edit Window” because templates are pre-defined sets of HTML content for specific purposes.
- Minimal Tweaks can be made to the content from within the “Preview” view as shown below but extensive text editing might not behave as expected since this is primarily designed for editing HTML directly
What does that mean?
A summary would be that if you are designing a message and dragging and dropping images you'll be using the latest version, but if you request to view the code or want to paste in code from an outside source you'll be switched to the the previous version until the latest version of CKEditor has that feature.
