How to update your the IP Address of your ODBC connection
The first step to updating the IP address that your ODBC connection connects to is to determine which server or computer the Target On Site Service is running on.
Log on to the computer that you believe was set up for this, open the Windows Services tool. A typical path might be: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. You can also type Services in the search box and it should find it.
On the Services window, look for “TargetOnsiteService.” TargetOnsiteService should be started. If it is not running you may have the wrong computer. Your version of windows may not look the same as the screenshots below.
Once you locate the computer or server TargetOnSiteService is running on, then we need to open the ODBC connection to change the IP Address. ODBC connections are found at: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC). Double click Data Sources (ODBC) to open. Depending on your version of Windows, this may be labeled ODBC Data Sources (32-bit) or ODBC Data Sources (64-bit) depending on which version of TargetOnSiteService was installed(32-bit or 64-bit)
Once you open the ODBC Data Source Administrator, click on the System DSN tab.
Under the Name column double click on the connection that BrightArrow uses. The name may vary, but may include your school name, BrightArrow, a combination of the the two, or something completely different. Contact BrightArrow support if you are unable to locate the name of the data source that BrightArrow uses.
On the DSN Configuration page, Change the Server IP to the IP address you were given and click the “Finish” Button. If you also have a port number change, click “Next” instead of “Finish” On the next window, click the button “Test Data Source” and you should get a message that the test was successful. Click OK.
If you don’t need to change the port, you can skip this step. On the window with the login information, click the button labeled “Client Configuration” A new window will open, and on this window “Add Network Library Configuration” please enter the port number that was provided to you. Click “OK” Then click “Next” on the window that has the “Client Configuration” button. You may also need to enter the ODBC password. They system should then test the data source and let you know of the results.
Important: Once the ODBC connection is tested, then the TargetOnsiteService identified in Step 3 above needs to be restarted. To do this, right click on TargetOnsiteService and choose “Restart”
Once you have changed the IP address, reach out to us at GetTechSupport@BrightArrow.com We will then verify that your computer is communicating to our servers properly.
