How to Take a Message Out of Read-Only Mode

If you need to edit a message that is in read-only mode, you can easily turn off the protection to be able to edit it with just a few clicks.

If you clicked "Edit Message" and you see something like the screenshot below, you just need to turn off a toggle in the List Settings.

Follow these steps to take the message out of read-only mode and make your edits. Once you're finished, be sure to put the message back in read-only mode to avoid any accidental changes.

  1. From the My Lists page, click directly on the name of the list to open the List Details page.
  2. Click the List Settings button.
  3. The toggle for Disable deleting current message will be turned on. That toggle is what puts the message in read-only mode. Turn the Disable deleting current message toggle OFF
  4. Click the double back arrows in the upper left to return to the previous page.
  5. Click the Edit Message button.
  6. Use the Next button to proceed through the message creator tool, and edit your message as needed.
  7. On the final message sending page, click Save to save your changes.
  8. Finally, click the List Settings button again and turn the Disable deleting current message toggle back ON to make sure no one makes changes to the message accidentally.
