Working with the PowerSchool 22.7 security change

PowerSchool 21.11 introduced a new security option that was not being enforced. PowerSchool 22.7 begins enforcing that security. When a school moves to 22.7 any outside resource such as BrightArrow or Level Data must have specific permission to be used within PowerSchool. We are happy to say that our latest plugins are ready for PS 22.7!

What version of the plugins work on 22.7?

The Base 2 plugin is the one in question. Beginning in version 9.1.2 the security fix has been applied. If your Base 2 plugin is less than 9.1.2 your version is not compatible with PS 22.7.

Can I put the fix on my server early?

Yes, as long as your PowerSchool version is 21.11 or later. If you are on PowerSchool version 21.4, 20.4, etc the security fix will create an error when you try and install.

Where can I get the latest plugins?

You can find the most recent plugins by going to Current Plugin Versions for Download. Normally you see 2 rows, 1 for Base 1 and one for Base 2 but because so many districts are on PowerSchool versions that are too old to accept the fix we now have to have separate versions until all the 21.4 and 20.4 servers are upgraded (I'm looking at you every district in North Carolina).

If you wish to see the change history for that plugin then click on the plugin name. Click on the plugin version in the appropriate column (BrightArrow vs Instant Connect) to get to the actual plugin. Click on the download button in the upper right corner to download the zip file. DO NOT unzip the file. DO NOT allow Safari to unzip the file (we can talk later about why are you using Safari at all, are you jealous of how awful Internet Exploder was and wanted some pain yourself?). What if my Base 1 plugin is not current?

If your base 1 plugin is older than the current base 1 available, always update that FIRST! We have separated out the DataBase extensions from the rest of the plugin because of an order of operations error in the plugin activation process. Because of this Base 2 will fail if the thing it is looking for isn't there so update Base 1 to make sure it is there and then Base 2.

What if I only have a single Base plugin?

If you only have a Base plugin, not a Base 1 and a Base 2 plugin then your plugins are too old for you to do yourself. There are things that will need to be done to update you. Please contact support and we'll work with you on getting to a point where you can update on your own if you wish. Alternately if you let us log into PowerSchool we'll update them for you.

I have a Data plugin, does that need to be updated?

Probably not immediately, but if your data plugin is less than 9.2.0 let us know and we'll work on updating it for you. Generally all you lose with an old data plugin is some new features won't work. That's not critical, your previous features will continue as they had before.
