Opened Email Tracking

With all of the email messages you are sending, you may be wondering if anyone actually reads them. While we can't guarantee that your contacts are reading your message, we can report on which recipients likely opened the message by enabling the "Show Opened Email Status" status filter on your reports page.

Using the "Show Opened Email Status" Filter

The "Show Opened Email Status" feature is a status filter that can be accessed from your BrightArrow Reports page once it has been enabled. The filter will show our best estimate of the number of emails that have been opened and who opened them.

1. Navigate to your BrightArrow Reports page:

2. From the "All Messages" tab, click on the message you would like to see the Opened Email Status details for.

3. Under the message details, click on the Status Filter drop-down menu and select "Show Opened Email Status."

4. You will notice that the Call Result has now changed from showing "Sent" to showing "Opened (date/time)" for all recipients who have opened the email. Here you can see the specific recipients who opened the email and when they opened it.

A new line also appears at the bottom of the bar graph indicating how many emails were opened in total.

Video Demo

This video demo shows how the "Show Opened Email Status" status filter works and how to access it from your BrightArrow Reports page.

Can I export the Opened Email results to a spreadsheet?

Yes, the results can be exported to a CSV file and/or printed to a PDF.

Enabling the "Show Opened Email" Status Filter

By default, the "Show Email Opened Status" filter is disabled and cannot be enabled by Administrators. If you would like the feature to be enabled for your organization, let us know by emailing gettechsupport@brightarrow.com and we will be happy to enable it for you.

Will my contacts need to click to send me a read receipt?

No, recipients of the email message will not be made aware that the data is being transmitted to you. The feature works by embedding an invisible pixel in the email message which gives us an indication of when the email was opened. This is different than a 'read receipt' in the way that we are not requesting recipients to mark the message as "read."

How accurate is the filter?

As with all read receipt technologies, this feature does not guarantee that the recipient has actually opened or read the email, but it does provide a general indication of whether the email was  likely read. Some email apps may show the email as opened without marking it as read. Others may pre-render the email before delivery, marking it as opened automatically. In order to mitigate this, we check if the email is marked as read or opened within the first 5 seconds after sending, and if it is, we assume it was pre-rendered by the email provider's servers and will not report it as 'opened'. After the initial 5-second delay, if the email is opened, we will assume the recipient has viewed it. This is a limitation that all read receipt algorithms have. None will be 100% accurate, but they do give good indications. In our tests, the 5-second rule had the best results for combatting these limitations.

I tested this feature on an older message but it shows 0 emails opened!

Even though you'll be able to click on the "Show Opened Email Status" filter for all messages, the data is only collected on messages sent after the feature was enabled. Any messages sent before the status filter was enabled will not have contained the invisible pixel needed for this feature and therefore will not contain trackable 'opened email' data.
