What is a non-standard filter

A non-standard filter is any that is not in the filter list screen. Nearly 100% of those involve using the contact’s relationship. We recommend against using relationship as a filter method as it opens you up to not contacting important people in a student’s life during a critical time just because their relationship status does not meet specific requirements.

Ex: Relationship filter -> Mother, FatherJimmy lives with Grandma and Grandpa, Mom and dad are not in the picture. Jimmy’s guardians do not get any messages because they aren’t the correct relationship type.

For this reason we do not build in a way to put relationship based filters into the screen. If you require that we will customize a plugin for you and require an additional non-relationship based option to catch those that don’t meet the relationship requirement but still need to be contacted.

Ex: Filter -> Mother, Father, OR Lives With is checked

Jimmy’s grandparents have the Lives With checked so now they’ll be included
