Short Code Text Messaging FAQ

What is the number for short code texts?

79041

How does a person opt-in to texting?

They simply send the word “Yes” or “Si” to 79041 or 87569

What if the person deleted the invitation text?

That’s OK, sending “Yes” to 79041 or 87569 will opt them into getting messages even if the invitation hasn’t been sent yet.

My users have been used to 87569. What is 79041?

Due to high demand we found we needed to switch services and that meant getting a new short code number. As of right now both will work and eventually the 79041 number will take over for all messages.

We already opt-ed in using 87569, do we need to opt in again for 79041?

No, your opt in works for both.

If someone opts into texting do they automatically get all of our messages?

No, that is still controlled by your lists and who you are sending to. Opting in only gives us permission to send them a message. You still determine who to send to.

What happens if a phone number is in the list and hasn’t opted in yet?

Our system will first check if that number has been invited yet. If it hasn’t then the person will get the message the old way this one time (message will be truncated to 160 characters and it will not have a link to see more of the message) and then receive an invite to opt into future messages.

If the invite had already been sent and the person had not sent the opt-in message they will not get the message you are sending. In the report you’ll see the phone number and the status will say that it was not contacted for opt-in reasons.

How do I see who hasn’t opted in yet?

There is a report that will show you who has been invited and if they’ve opted in yet.

  1. From the My Lists page find the drop down at the top
  2. The 2nd to last option is Reports, select that option
  3. The reports section opens and there is now a new report available called * Texting Opt Ins *, select that
  4. In this report you’ll see all the phone numbers and their current status.
    1. Not Textable indicates a landline that can not receive text messages
    2. Opt-Out indicates that the invite has been sent and no response has been received
    3. Opt-In indicates the phone number has positively opted in
    4. The response column will show what was received from that phone number to generate the current status.

I have someone who said they received a message today and then received a message saying they’ve been opted out and would no longer receive messages from us. What happened?

This sometimes happens with iOS users when they try and “Like” a text you send them. That action sends the entire message back to the sender, in this case the 87569 number. If your message has one of the opt-out keywords in it then it looks like the user is requesting to be opted out of future messages.

To undo this the user should reply with the word “Yes” to that same number.

How does someone opt-out after they’ve already opted in?

They simply need to send an opt-out keyword to 87569

Phrase that can be anywhere within the response:

  • Unsubscribe
  • wrong number
  • wrong person
  • please remove
  • please stop
  • not a working number
  • do not send
  • take me off

Word that must start the response (or be the entire response) to be considered an opt out:

  • stop
  • remove
  • wrong
  • bad

Note: it looks for these words regardless of capitalization.

What happens if a person responds to the message? Will I get the response?

No, the 87569 number is not a real phone and will not sort messages other than to look for opt-in or opt-out requests.

What if more than one of my recipients use the same number, do they need to opt in for each?

No. The opt-in is giving us permission to send to that number regardless of who is sending the message. If two members of the same household have the same phone number listed they will only receive 1 invite and only need to opt-in 1 time which will give you permission to send messages to either household member.

I have a new number but it’s already opted in, how does that happen?

The opt-in is giving us permission to send to that number. It’s possible that person has already opted in from another organization that is also sending messages through us. For example a daycare and a school may both have kids from the same family. If the parents opted in for the day care then the school can send as well.

Is there any other way I can help a person opt-in?

Yes. Other than sending a message to 87569 the person can also opt-in via a link. You can add a link in your next email message from our system. Copy and paste the line below into your message and a link will be provided for each person to opt-in.
