Group and Private Conversations

When starting a BrightChat, you'll have the option for whether you'd like to start a group chat or a private chat. With a group chat, you'll be able to chat with multiple users in a group message setting. These messages will be public to everyone added to the group. For a private chat, these will be 1 on 1 with whichever user you are sending the message to. These configurations are useful when you want to send out a message to a group of parents or teachers that you are setting up a meeting with. Or, if you set up a private chat, you can speak 1 on 1 with a parent about their student.

For Senders

Starting a BrightChat with only one list contact would result in a private BrightChat, and starting a BrightChat with two or more contacts from a list would result in a group BrightChat

.

For Recipients

Your recipients will have two options when viewing your initial message in the app: Chat with Group and Chat Privately. Clicking Chat With Group will add them to the group conversation and clicking Chat Privately will create a one-on-one conversation with the sender. Group responses will go to everyone who was invited to the BrightChat, and private responses will ONLY go to the sender.

Receivers may also respond to a non-BrightChat message. For example, if a sender sent a regular BrightArrow message via email and text, then the receiver will see a “Chat” button when viewing the message in the app. This button acts the same as the Chat Privately option, and would initiate a private conversation.

In the constituent/receiver portion of the documentation, we will outline exactly how a receiver would join the conversation.
