Viewing Messages in the Feed

The ParentHub Feeds page provides a place for all app users to see every message they've received. With ParentHub, recipients no longer have to worry about missing an email, text message, phone call, or chat, because they are all available in the app.

Viewing messages in the feed

When you login to ParentHub, you will be directed to the Feeds page. The ParentHub Feeds page provides a list of all notifications you received. Your most recent messages will be at the top of the page, but you can scroll down to view any past messages. Each message preview has a date and time stamp so you can see when it was sent.

Tap on any message preview to view it in more detail. Once you've opened the message preview, click the appropriate icon for the message type you want to review.

  • The envelope icon will show you the email message.
  • The speech bubble icon will show you the text message.
  • The microphone icon will let you listen to the voice message.
  • The three circles icon indicates that the message is a two-way chat.
  • When you open the message preview you will have an option to reply to the chat.

What does the "New" icon indicate?

When you see the icon that says "new" in the message feed, that is to show that you have an unread notification. Once you open the message preview to view the full message, the icon will go away.

What do the icons at the bottom of each message preview mean?

The message icons at the bottom of each notification preview are to show the type of message. Sometimes organizations will send the same message to you via email, text message, and phone call to make sure you were able to get it. Sometimes messages are sent using only one or two of the options listed below. In those cases you will not see all three icons listed.

  1. The icons at the bottom of each message next to the date/time stamp indicate the method(s) your organization used to send you the message.
    1. The envelope icon means the notification was sent via email
    2. The speech bubble icon means the message was sent via text message
    3. The microphone icon means the message was sent via phone call
    4. The three circles icon means the message is part of a two-way chat.
  2. When you open the message preview to see the full message, you will see these icons again. Once you've clicked into the preview to view the full message, click on the icon to review the respective message type.

Using the pin to "favorite" a message

You can add messages to your Favorites to be able to find them again quickly. If you have an important message and want to make sure you can easily find it again, "pin" it as a favorite.

  1. Tap the "pin" icon which can be found on the message preview or within the full message.
  2. When you go to find the message again, there is no need to scroll through your whole feed. Click the "Favorites" tab to see only your pinned messages.
  3. If you no longer want to see the message in your Favorites, tap the "pin" again to remove it from the Favorites tab. The message will still be in your feed, but it will no longer be pinned as a favorite.

Alerts

When you see the circled exclamation point icon next to a message preview, that indicates that the message sender marked your message as urgent. The alert is to help bring your attention to a very important message that the organization wants you to view.

Messages that show the alert icon will show in your "All" messages feed and also in the "Alerts" tab.

When the sender marks the message as urgent, they must specify a timeframe for the urgency. Once the timeframe has expired, your message will no longer be marked as urgent and will be removed from your Alerts tab in ParentHub. The message will still show in your "All" messages feed, but will no longer have the emergency icon or be listed under the Alerts tab. For example, if there is a two-hour delay, the sender might set the timeframe for the alert to expire two hours after the school's normal start time. The message will show in your alerts tab until that two-hour window is up. After that, the emergency icon will go away and your message will be removed from the "Alerts" tab.

Can I filter my messages?

If you don't have a message pinned to your favorites to be able to quickly find it again, you can narrow down the results in your feed by filtering the messages. The filter option is especially helpful when you know the general timeframe the message was sent, who it was sent by, or what type of message was sent. For example, if you want to see all voice messages that were sent within the past week only, the filter option will be the most helpful way to find the message(s) you are looking for.

  1. Click the filter "funnel" icon located in the upper right of the screen.
  2. Use the drop-down boxes to choose your filter types. Click OK.
  3. You will now see the filtered list of messages. Notice that the filters being used are shown above your list of message previews.
  4. To remove your filters, click "Clear" next to your filters on the Feeds page.

  5. OR go back into the funnel icon and click "Reset."

How can I search my messages?

If you want to search your feed by topic or keyword, you can use the search function to narrow down your results. This option is especially helpful when you don't know when the message was sent or who sent it. For example, you received a message about an important function but do not want to scroll through your feed to find it again.

  1. From your Feeds page, click the search icon located in the upper right corner of your screen.
  2. Type a keyword into the search that you think would be included in your message.
  3. ParentHub will search through your feed to narrow down your results and show you only the messages that contain the search term you entered.
  4. Once you've found the message you needed, you can clear the search by clicking the circled "x" in the search box.

How to set up notifications so I don't miss a new message

You can subscribe to push notifications through the Menu tab. For additional help setting up notifications, see here

Why aren't all my messages in my feed?

  • If you receive BrightArrow messages from more than one organization, it is possible that you only see messages from one of the organizations in your feed if you have different contact information on file with each organization. If that is the case, you can add each phone number or email address to your ParentHub account so that all your messages show up in the same feed. Your additional phone numbers and email addresses can be added through the menu settings. See here for additional help in adding them.
  • While the initial BrightChat message will show in your feed, responses to the chat will not show on the Feeds page. Navigate to the Chats tab to access the full conversation.
  • If you've applied filters to your feed, try clearing your filters to make sure all your messages are showing. See here for additional help.
  • If none of the above scenarios apply to you, please contact us for assistance.

Can my messages be translated to my preferred language?

If you prefer to read your messages in a different language, there is an option to translate all of the messages in your feed automatically. Choose your preferred language in the menu settings. See here for more details.
