How to Reply to a Chat in ParentHub

You can create, view, and reply to chat messages in ParentHub or in the BrightView user interface (website version). This article will show you how to reply to a chat in the ParentHub app. For instructions on viewing and replying to a chat in BrightView, see here. 

Replying to a new conversation

If you've been invited to join a new chat conversation, you can join the conversation from the "Invites" tab. Once you've joined, the conversation will move to either your Group tab or Private tab respectively. 

1. In ParentHub, navigate to your Chats page. 
2. Tap on the "Invites" tab. The Invites tab shows all the chat conversations you've been invited to join. 

3. Tap on the conversation you want to join. New conversations will say "new" on them until you tap on them to open the message. 

4. You will see the initial message, along with a reply button. The person who creates the initial chat invite has the option to send the message as a private chat or group chat, or they can choose to give recipients the option to reply privately or to the whole group.  
   1. If the message was sent only as a private chat, you will only have the option to reply privately. 
   2. If the message was sent only as a group chat, you will only have the option to reply to the group.
   3. If the sender chose to give recipients the option to reply privately or to the whole group, you will see buttons to reply whichever way you choose. 
   
5. Tap the reply button. 
6. Send a reply using the box at the bottom of the page. 
   1. Use the icon to add an attachment from your device. 
   
   2. Tap "Write your message." A new window will open for you to type your reply into. Write your reply, then tap OK. 
   
   3. Tap the Send icon to send your reply. 
   
7. Your chat conversation is now "active." You can continue to follow the conversation by tapping on it from the "Private" or "Group" or tab respectively. 

Replying to an active chat conversation

1. In ParentHub, navigate to your Chats page. 
2. Tap on the "Group" tab to see conversations that are part of a Group Chat. Tap on the "Private" tab to see messages that are part of a Private Chat. 

3. Tap on the message you would like to reply to. This will open the full conversation for you to see. 
4. Send a reply using the box at the bottom of the page. 
   1. Use the icon to add an attachment from your device. 
   
   2. Tap "Write your message." A new window will open for you to type your reply into. Write your reply, then tap OK. 
   
   3. Tap the Send icon to send your reply.
